The first is monodzukuri—the philosophy of treating design and manufacturing as a single integrated act, with relentless, incremental improvement on the shop floor. The second is shokunin—the professional ethic of spending a career mastering a single craft. The third is kaizen—the organizational culture of being 0.1% better today than yesterday.
What matters is that this precision cannot be replicated overnight. A drawing can specify dimensions and tolerances. But actually achieving micron-level accuracy requires reading how metal responds to temperature changes, sensing tool wear with your fingertips—embodied knowledge built over years. You cannot buy it with equipment. It lives in people and organizations. Which is why, when those people retire, the world faces the risk of losing irreplaceable capability (3).
